5"w x 4"h

$ 200.00

Doug Vigil (b. 1954) makes pottery with his wife, Charlotte.  Doug is a son of noted potters Albert (1927-2009) and Josephine (1927-2001) Vigil.  He is a grandson of painter Romando Vigil, one of the members of the San Ildefonso School of Watercolor artists.  He is a great-nephew of Maria Martinez.  Doug and Charlotte learned to make pottery from Albert & Josephine and began making pottery in 1977.  Today, they are one of the few San Ildefonso potters making pieces in the classic matte-on-red style.  The piece is highly polished red and then painted with a tan clay slip. The bowl has four flowers patterns painted around the body.  It was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Doug & Charlotte Vigil”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
