Linda “Jo Povi” Askan is a daughter of Marie and Andy Askan. She is a sister of potter Birdell Bourdon. She was given her Tewa name, “Jo Povi” by her grandmother Adelaide Sisneros. It means “Cactus Flower.”. She learned to make pottery from both her mother and grandmother. She began making pottery in 1984. Her pottery is coil built, stone polished, and traditionally fired.
