Barbara “Jo-Povi” Martinez (b. 1947) is a daughter of noted potter Flora Naranjo. She is the mother of Chris Martinez, Vickie Martinez, and Sammy Naranjo. She began making pottery in 1965 and learned from her mother. Each piece is coil built, carved, stone polished, and traditionally fired. This jar has a triangular opening. The side are painted with rain and cloud designs. It is very highly polished and fired a deep, glossy black. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Barbara Martinez”.
