Tso, Jared – “Pool of Moonlight” 12″ Tall Sharp Rib Jar
$ 4,200.00
This is a large sharp rib jar by Jared Tso. He is one of the rising stars of Native pottery. He is a grandson of potter Faye Tso and his pottery is exceptionally refined in technique and traditional in style. Each piece is coil-built from traditional native Navajo clay and traditionally fired. This large jar has eight sharp ribs pushed out in the clay. The rim has 9 pointed ends that are in the center space between each sharp rib! The outside of the jar is polished white at an angle. It was traditionally fired to create the black, gray, and white coloration. The color creates the look of moonlight through the clouds. The interesting (but hard to photograph!) part of the jar is the inside. Jared used pinon pitch on the inside and it is a dark brown color. The pitch pooled at the bottom, giving the jar its name! The precision of the sharp ribs and the coloration are exceptional on this jar. The piece seems to be in motion! It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work, and, using the same clays, refine them in a modernistic manner. The jar is signed, “Jared Tso”.
