Emerson Ami is the husband of noted potter, Dorothy Ami. He is known for his innovative designs on Hopi-Tewa pottery. This piece is made from native clay, coil-bulit, and painted with bee-weed and clay slips. The pitcher has a round body, a handle, and an elongated neck. Around the body of the piece are geometric cloud designs in red. They are surrounded by stippled black areas. The piece was traditionally fired to create intense blushes on the surface. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed on the bottom with his hallmark of “Ami”.
