This bowl by Teresa Gutierrez is very tightly carved with a water serpent as the design. The bowl is polished red and then the traditional cream colored clay slip is applied into the background areas. This creates a more dramatic contrast of coloration with the matte and polished surfaces.

Description
This bowl has a carved avanyu as the design. Again note the depth of the carving and the complexity of the design. The carved areas are outlined with a matte black slip which again draws attention to the design.
