Gutierrez, Margaret Lou – Jar with Feather Pattern (1990’s)

Margaret Lou Gutierrez was the only daughter of noted potters Tonita & Juan Roybal.  She began making pottery in the 1970’s and this is one of her pieces from the 1990’s. The jar has a long neck and a round shoulder.  It is painted with her elongated feathers and it is very highly polished.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Margaret Lou Gutierrez”.  It is hard to see the signature in the photo, but it is clear on the piece.
