Karen Abeita is known for her traditional and innovative Hopi-Tewa pottery.  This small bowl is fully polished and very detailed in the painting. There is a bird wing pattern with thin lines around the top of the jar.  Around the shoulder are bird wing, cloud, and rain designs.  The jar is painted with bee-wed along with a burgudy red and orange colored clay.  The detail and complexity of the design for the size is strking! The jar was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom in bee-weed, “Karen” and her hallmark.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
