Abeita, Karen – Small Jar with Interlocking Awatovi Star Design
$ 900.00
Karen Abeita is known for her traditional and innovative Hopi-Tewa pottery. This is an amazing large bowl! The form is inspired by the classic Sikyatki pottery with a wide shoulder and sloping sides. The top half is painted with bee-weed (black). The jar has interlocking stars, painted with band of lines, checkerboard, and kiva step bands. Looking down from the top, there are three rows of interlocking stars. It is a striking and complicated design! The jar was traditionally fired so there are light blushes on the surface. It is signed on the bottom in bee-weed, “Karen Abeita”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
