Adams, Kathy – Bowl with Deer Katsina and Lid

3.5"w x 3.25"h (w/ lid)

$ 300.00

Kathy Adam is a daughter of Earl Adams and a niece of noted potter Sadie Adams.  This bowl is coil-built, stone polished, and painted with bee-weed.  It has two silhouettes of Deer katsinas, and two more detailed views of their heads with highlights of red clay.

The Deer Dancer (Sowi-ingwa) is a social dancer who helps to ensure that game is plentiful and that sufficient snow comes in the winter to allow a good harvest the following year.

The area around the Deer Katsinas is mottled.  The top of the lid has a star design and the bottom of the lid a Sun Katsina.  The bowl and lid were traditionally fired to create blushes on the surface.  It is signed, “Kathy Adams”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
