Rafaelita Aguilar (b. 1936) is a daughter of Juan and Miguelita Aguilar.  She is a sister of Joe Aguilar and the aunt of Joe and Robert Aguilar.  Rafaelita is known for her large coil-built Santo Domingo (Kewa) pottery.  She began making pottery around 1953.  Each piece is coil-built, stone polished, painted, and fired black-on-black.  This jar has a wide shoulder and a short neck.  Above the shoulder is a leaf pattern.  Below the shoulder is a wild spinach plant design.  The jar was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Rafaelita Aguilar”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
