It is not often that we see such a large plate by Susana Aguilar.  This is a striking piece of her pottery from the 1920s.  It is fully polished on the front and there is a small edge to the rim.  The design is a sun pattern with rain and cloud designs.  Note how the designs has a fluid appearance across the surface of the piece and a degree of asymmetry.  This is typical of her painted designs.  The plate is signed on the back in clay slip, “Susanna”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  There is one scratch that can be seen on the plate.  On the back is Dick Howard’s original inventory number “5342”.  While this plate came back to the gallery, I originally purchased this piece from Dick Howard.
