Diego Aguino was a son of noted potter Martina Aguino.  After she passed away in 1997, he began making pieces on his own that are both polished and etched. This is a figurative clay pendant that is fully polished and fired red. The front is etched with a Pueblo dancer and inset with a piece of turquoise.  It is set on a leather strap.  The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed, “Soe-Khuwa”, which is Diego’s name in Tewa.

Diego Aguino

"Soe-Khuwa" Aguino was the son of noted potter Martina Aguino.  In the 1960s and '70s, he designed pottery for his mother.  The pieces are both incised and more deeply carved.  After Martina passed away in 1997, he made sgraffito-designed pieces using his Tewa name, "Soe-Khuwa."  Over the years, they won numerous awards for their pottery at Santa Fe Indian Market, Gallup Ceremonials, and the New Mexico State Fair.
