Aguino, Diego – Turtle with Bear and Figure Designs (1990s)

4.5"w x 5"h

$ 400.00

Diego Aguino was a son of noted potter Martina Aguino.  After she passed away in 1997, he began making pieces on his own that are both polished and etched. This is a figurative “turtle” with a bowl that is the “shell”.  The body of the turtle is slipped with mica.  The back is polished and etched with a figure on one side and a bear on the other.  The front and back have cloud and butterfly designs.  The background area surrounding the designs has been more deeply stippled. The piece was traditionally fired.  The piece is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  The jar is signed, “Soe-Khuwa”, which is Diego’s name in Tewa.
