11"w x 11"h x 6" deep

$ 1,000.00

Ramona Ami (b. 1929)  was a daughter of Emma and Hale Adams.  She learned to make pottery from her sister, Marcella Kahe.  She was known for her use of traditional techniques, designs, and outdoor firing.  This large canteen is coil-built and painted with bee-weed (black) and a red clay slip.  The front has four panels of design, each of which have a swirling bird.  They are separated by bands of geometric Hopi-Tewa designs.  It is not just a large vessel, but very intricately painted! The canteen was traditionally fired so there are slight blushes on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Ramona Ami”.  It is in excellent with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
