Archuleta, Mary Ester – Fully Polished Red Bowl with Bear Paw (1970s)

Mary Ester Archuleta is the second youngest daughter of Margaret Tafoya.  She has never made a lot of pottery and most were created in the 1970s and 1980s. This bowl is fully polished and fired a deep red coloration.  On the outside, there are incised designs of a bear paw, water waves, and mountains.  The bowl tells the story of the bear leading the Pueblo people into the mountains during a drought to find water.   It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Mary E.  Archuleta.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
