Jane Baca (1919-2011) and her daughter Starr Tafoya (b. 1951) worked together on pottery for decades. Jane was a sister of Legoaria Tafoya and Pablita Velarde.  Jane and Starr were known primarily for their figurative pottery.  This is one of their clay animals. It is one of their few red fired pieces.  It is a bear standing on all four legs and it is fully polished and traditionally fired.  It is signed, “Jane and Starr”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
