Lorena Bartlett was a sister-in-law of Louise Goodman. She was known for her “thin-walled pots decorated with more-or-less traditional designs”. This is an unusual clay mule “bank”. The mule is hollow and sculpted with a load on it’s back. There is a rectangular space to make it a bank. The mule was traditionally fired and has strong colorations across the surface After the firing it was covered with pinon pitch. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “LHB”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Definitely a great piece of Navajo pottery history!
