This is a large contemporary square bowl by Daniel Begay.  The jar is coil-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired. The piece is entitled “Heading Home”.  The bowl has four flat sides with a sharp edge and turned in rim.  The sides are fully carved and the designs extend over the top of the shoulder and around the edges!  The sides of the bowl have a single antelope running under the afternoon sun.  There are additional plant and cloud designs.  Daniel is extraordinary in his ability to create pieces in this unique style.  It’s not just the imagery but the subtle flow of the polished and matte surfaces that are so creative in his work!   Daniel’s combination of both thin and thicker lines enhances the imagery.  His carving style has a beveled appearance to the angle of the cuts into the clay.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Daniel”.
