This is a tall jar by Daniel Begay.  The piece is coil-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  The jar has two butterflies carved into the clay.  Each one is different in style.  They each have polished wings.  Separating them are waterfall and lightning designs.  The jar has contrasting polished and matte areas.  Daniel is creative with what areas are polished and which are matte, as they accentuate his creative and complicated carved designs.  The style of carving has a beveled appearance to the angle of the cuts into the clay.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Daniel Begay”.
