This is a tall jar by Daniel Begay.  The jar is coil-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired. It is carved with three heartline bears on one side.  They are cut into the negative space of the clay with the heartlines polished.  As the jar is turned there are lightning, wind, and cloud patterns.  They extend from the neck to the base.  The piece is deeply carved and fired a glassy black.  Daniel’s combination of both thin and thicker lines enhances the imagery.  His carving style has a beveled appearance to the angle of the cuts into the clay.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Daniel Begay”.  It is from 2021 and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
