This is a traditional jar by Harrison Begay.  The jar is coil-built, carved, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  This jar has a round shape and a short neck.  The top has a carved star design when looking downwards. In matte, there are mountains extending upward.  There are two polished bands around the shoulder and near the base are carved cloud designs.  The piece has an elegant symmetry and contrasting polished and matte surfaces.    Note as well the style of carving, which has a beveled appearance to the angle of the cuts into the clay. This is a very distinctive style of carving for his pottery.    The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Harrison ’22”.
