Black, Elsie Bigman – 11″ Tall Water Jar with Pueblo Scenes (1990s)

7.5"w x 11.5"h

$ 400.00

This water jar is by Elise Bigman Black.  The jar is coil-built with tall sides, a turned out neck, and handles.  The piece is indented on two sides and has a Pueblo scene in applique in each indented area.  The cliff dwellings are reminiscent of those in Canon de Chelly.  The jar was traditionally fired and has strong colorations across the surface. After the firing, it was covered with pinon pitch.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “EB”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  Definitely a great piece of Navajo pottery history!
