Blue Corn – Polychrome Jar with 14 Feathers and Lightning Design (1980s)

2.5"w x 2.25"h

$ 450.00

This is a classic polychrome jar by Blue Corn.  She is often best known for her polychrome pottery and her creative use of various clay slips on her pottery. She learned to make pottery from Maria Martinez at San Ildefonso.  This jar has a low shoulder and sloping sides.  It is painted with feathers and a lightning design.  Check out the black, as there is mica mixed into the clay.  I remember being at Blue Corn’s house when she first began using the mica with the black and how excited she was by the results!  The jar is accented with an orange clay slip. The piece has 14 feathers in addition to the lightning design. It was traditionally fired.  The jar is signed on the bottom “Blue Corn, San Ildefonso”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
