Blue Corn – Polychrome Plate with Clouds and Flower (1980s)

6.75" diameter

$ 975.00

This plate is a classic design by Blue Corn.  Blue Corn began by making black-on-black pottery but it is her polychrome pottery for which she is the most famous.  This plate has a large flower in the center with hatchure linework.  One edge has clouds and wind designs, while the remainder is plain.  Blue Corn was masterful in using asymmetry in her designs to move the eye around the piece and make each work distinctive.  The piece is polished white (gray) and painted with red and black clay slips.  It was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the back in the clay, “Blue Corn”.  The plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
