Boone, Effa – Owl with Painted Eyes (1950s)

4"h

$ 250.00

Effa (Effie) Wallace Boone (1914-2001) was married to Jimmie Boone, who was a famous fetish carver.  Effa was famous for her pottery, and especially her clay owls.  They have a very distinctive, “old style” with the shape of the beaks.  However, look closely at the painting on the neck and head, where the lines are very tight.  It is much looser across the body of the owl.  The dots on the wings and the lines on the eyelashes are among her signature designs.  Effa is one of the more sought after Zuni potters for her owl.  This was originally purchased in the 1970s from a private collection.  It is signed, “Effa Boone” and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
