This an early tall carved jar by Autumn Borts-Medlock.  She is known for her often fancifully carved pottery. This jar is from 1986, made when she was only 19 years old!  The jar is deeply carved with a stylized avanyu encircling the piece.  It flows across the surface of the jar and she uses the negative space of the rim and base to add more design to the piece.  The jar is highly polished and fired a deep black.  It’s always great to see early work from an artist such as Autumn and realize how much talent was there early on in her career!  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Autumn Borts 1986”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
