Cain, Mary – Jar with Carved Avanyu (1970s)

7"w x 5.5"h

$ 850.00

Mary Cain was a daughter of Christina Naranjo and a granddaughter of SaraFina Tafoya.  She was known for her classic style of carved and polished Santa Clara pottery.  This is an exceptional jar with a round body and a short neck.  The top and bottom areas are fully polished. Around the center is an intricately carved avanyu.  Note the deep carving and the swirls of the design!  The jar was fired a glassy black.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Mary Cain”.   It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
