Cata, Rosita (1911-2008)
Rosita Cata was the daughter of Santos and Petronite Cruz. She began making pottery in the 1960’s.
Rosita Cata was known for her traditional incised and polychrome pottery. This bowl is polished red on the rim and the base. In the central band, it is lightly incised in the areas with the white clay is applied. The incised designs are then accented with red and clay areas. There are plant, lightning, and rain designs. It is a complex series of designs on the bowl. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Rosita Cata”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
