Chavarria, Stella – Bowl with Deeply Carved Clouds and Mountains (1970s)

5.5"w x 4"h

$ 375.00

Stella Chavarria is a daughter of noted potter Teresita Naranjo and a granddaughter of Christina Naranjo. This is a classic piece of her pottery from the 1970s. In the 1970s her pottery was very deeply carved, much like that of her mother.  This bowl has carved mountains, clouds, rain, and lightning patterns.  Note as well the use of the negative space from the rim and up from the base. That has a similarity to the work of her mother.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Stella Chavarria”.  The piece is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  While Stella makes very little pottery today her work continues to reflect Santa Clara pottery traditions.
