Chavarria, Stella – Jar with Lightning and Rain Designs
Stella Chavarria is a daughter of noted potter Teresita Naranjo and a granddaughter of Christina Naranjo. This is a striking piece of her pottery. The jar has a tall shape with a rounded rim. The shoulder of the jar is carved with mountain, rain, and lightning designs. It is fired to a glossy black. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Stella Chavarria”. The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. While Stella makes very little pottery today her work continues to reflect Santa Clara pottery traditions.
