Lorraine Chinana (b. 1955) began making pottery in 1981. She learned to make pottery from her grandmother Reyes S. Toya. This jar is coil-built, stone polished, and etched with design. The entire surface is fully polished red. The neck has no design but has an asymmetric rim. The body of the jar has her famous “daisy” design. It is a series of interlocking daisy petals encircling the piece. It is amazingly precise in detail and the round shape of the jar means there is a lot of volume to the piece. The volume then means more space for design work. The daisy design is all stone polished and the coloration of the clay and the matte area that she etched away is striking! The jar is signed on the bottom, “Lorraine Chinana”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
