Chino, Alicia Kelsey – “Weaving Memories” Tall Checkerboard Design Jar

Alicia Kelsey Chino (b. 1979) s a daughter of noted potter Darla Davis and a granddaughter of Rachel JWhite.  She learned to make pottery from her mother.  She is known for her traditional style designs.  This tall jar is coil built and fully painted from top to bottom.  The jar has a high shoulder and a short neck.  It is very tightly painted with a checkerboard design that is inspired by woven rugs.  It is black-and-white with small dots of red clay.  It is a classic shape and detailed painting!  It creates an op-art-inspired and dynamic appearance!   The piece is signed on the bottom, “A. Chino”.
