Chino-Garcia, JoAnn – Large Jar with Fineline Interlocking Stars (1983)

JoAnn Chino-Garcia (b. 1961) is a daughter of Carrie Chino and granddaughter of Marie Z. Chino.  The jar is made from native clay and it is coil-built and painted with bee-weed (black). The jar has a classic water jar shape with a high shoudler and short neck.  The piece is fully painted with an extraordinary fine-line stars.  There are TWEVLE rows of interlocking stars.  There are four sided stars that connect to eight sided stars.  The piece was traditionally fired. The piece is signed, “JoAnn Chino Garcia”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  There are few tiny areas of spalling which are not uncommon on pieces from this period.
