This is an iconic large water jar by Rose Chino Garcia. She was a daughter of noted potter Marie Z. Chino. This piece is a classic Acoma water jar shape. The jar is coil built and painted with bee-weed (black). The design is has fine-line rain designs a long with cloud and plant patterns. It is a creative use of classic fine-line imagery! This large jar is very thin-walled and it was traditionally fired. It is signed on the bottom, “Rose Chino”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.

Rose Chino-Garcia learned to make pottery from her mother, Marie Z. Chino. Her sisters are Carrie Chino Charlie, Vera Chino Ely, and Grace Chino. Her pottery is in collections of the Peabody Museum at Harvard University, Heard Museum in Phoenix, Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa. She was known for her use of both traditional and contemporary designs.
