Clashin, Debbie – Long Neck Jar with Eagle Tails and Sikyatki Birds

9.25"w x 6.5"h

$ 1,800.00

This is a large wide and very flat seedpot by Debbie Clashin.  She is a cousin of noted potter Mark Tahbo and a descendant of Grace Chapella.  Debbie has quickly become well known for her large-sized traditional Hopi-Tewa pottery. This jar is coil-built and painted with bee-weed (black) and clay slips.  The jar has a wide shoulder and a short neck.  The top of the shoulder has large eagle tail designs, surrounded by dragonflies.  separating them are designs with tightly painted Sikyatki birds at the top.  Below are sunrise and cloud designs.   Below the shoulder are mountain designs highlighted with both red and orange clay slips. The jar was traditionally fired with exceptional fire clouds across the surface.   It is signed on the bottom “Debbie Clashin” and a pipe for her “Tobacco Clan”.  There is certainly a wonderful depth of coloration on this jar, matched by its complex painted designs.
