8"w x 14.5"h

$ 1,200.00

Kathleen Collateta (b. 1969) is a daughter of Hopi kachina carver Tom Collateta Sr. and Antonita Collateta of Jemez.  She learned to make pottery from her grandmother, Sara Collateta.  Kathleen uses Hopi clay and uses Hopi designs.  This large wedding vase is coil-built, stone polished, and painted with bee-weed and clay slips.  There is a large hummingbird on one side and a large, swirling Hopi bird on the opposite side.  Separating them is a large Butterfly Maidein painted below the spout!  The designs are all tightly painted and striking in style.  The piece was painted with bee-weed and clay slips and traditionally fired.  It is signed, “K. Collateteta”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
