Concho, Lolita – Large Water with Interlocking Rainbows and Flowers (1970s)

11.5"w x 9.5"h

$ 1,500.00

This is an exceptional large water jar by Lolita Concho.  She is considered one of the Acoma revivalists in the 1960s-70s, along with Marie Z. Chino, Lucy Lewis, and Jessie Garcia.  This piece is from the early 1970s and it is made from native clay, coil-built, thin-walled, and tightly painted. The jar has eight interlocking rainbows around the neck and eight more near the base.  In the center are large flower designs.  The jar is tightly painted with bee-weed and clay slips.  Lolita’s designs are perfectly painted to accentuate the shape of the jar.  The jar was traditionally fired so there are very subtle color variations on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “L. Concho”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
