Coriz, Hilda – Small Square Bowl with Big Horn Sheep and Plants (1994)
$ 150.00
This is a small bowl by Hilda Coriz. Hilda would coil-build each piece, and then Arthur would usually paint them. This piece was made and painted by Hilda alone. The painting was done with natural clay slips (white and red) and wild spinach (black). This bowl has a square shape. Two sides have Big Horn Sheep and the opposite two sides have plant designs. The corners have rain patterns. The rim of the bowl has a “spirit line” or break in the painted design on the rim, which then extends down through the entire design. This goes back to historic Kewa pottery, when the artist would use the spirit line to release their spirit or connection from the vessel. The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Hilda Coriz”. The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It was originally purchased directly from the artist.
