This is a large water jar by Julian Coriz. He is a self-taught potter from Santo Domingo pueblo. The jar has a low shoulder and a fluted rim. The piece is painted with clay slips and mineral paints for the black. The jar has large interlocking leaves and plant designs. It is a tightly painted design that matches the shape of the vessel. The neck is fluted and undulating in shape. It is signed, “Julian Coriz”.
