Johnny Cruz is a son of Viola “Sunset” Cruz and a grandson of Santana & Adam Martinez.  He is also a great-grandson of Maria Martinez. His brother, Marvin Martinez, is also known for his traditional San Ildefonso pottery.  This is one of his few clay bears.  It is slipped with mica and the legs are sculpted.  There is a larger piece of turquoise on the back and two smaller pieces for the eyes.  It is signed, “J. Cruz”.   It is in excellent condition with no cracks, restoration or repair.
