This is a larger clay bear by Dolores Curran. It is fully polished red and then painted buff-on-red. Did you know that for her painted designs, Dolores paints over the designs between four and five times? First, she has to polish the piece and then the designs are painted onto the surface. The first time is to outline the design, over the same area to deepen the outline coloration. Then the designs are filled-in and then painted over again. Finally, the entire piece is painted over one more time for consistency in color! This bear has a cloud design on the legs. The back has an avanyu along with rain and cloud patterns. There is a heartline at the mouth of the bear. Note as well on the back there are additional red-on-red painted cloud designs! The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Dolores Curran”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
