Early, Max – “Laguna” Fluted Rim Water Jar (2007)

11"w x 11.25"h

$ 1,800.00

Max Early is one of the few traditional potters working today at Laguna Pueblo.  His work combines historic forms with a blend of contemporary and traditional designs.  This is an important jar in the history of his creative pottery. The jar is coil-built and painted with native clays.  The jar has a round body and a fluted rim. The body of the jar has rectangular designs that represent fields of crops.  The neck has plant designs.  The fluted rim is a striking addition to the piece that balances the round shoulder and short neck.  The piece was traditionally fired, so there are slight colorations on the surface.  The jar is from 2007 and has a second-place ribbon from Santa Fe Indian Market.  It is signed on the bottom, “Max Early”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
