Max Early is one of the few traditional potters working today at Laguna Pueblo.  His work combines traditional forms with a blend of contemporary and traditional designs.  This small canteen has a round body and extended spouts.  It has a plant design on one side, and a flower and bird pattern on the opposite side.  It was traditionally fired, so there are some color variations on the surface.  It is signed, “Max Early” on the bottom and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is certainly exciting to see a potter who is inspired by traditional shapes and designs and yet has the artistry to create his own distinctive variation!
