Ebelacker, Jason – Red and Tan Jar with Cloud Designs

8"w x 6.5"h

$ 2,200.00

This is the first time we have had a red and tan jar by Jason Ebelacker.  Jason is a son of noted potter Richard Ebelacker and grandson of Virginia Ebelacker.  This bowl is coil built and fully carved. The rim and the base are polished red while the center is polished tan.  The central band has cloud, rain, mountain, and lightning designs. Creating the tan coloration is a difficult process, as it is just water added to the surface of the vessel and then polished.  It is difficult to achieve a high shine.  In contrast, the red is a clay slip that is applied to the surface of the vessel and then it is stone polished.  The bowl was traditionally fired.  The contrast of the red and tan colorations is striking on this piece.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay.
