Folwell, Jody – Brown Jar with Bears and Birds (1980s)

9"w x 6"h

$ 1,850.00

Jody Folwell is known for her creative pottery shapes and designs.  This jar is coil-built, fully stone polished, and fired a dark brown coloration.  Before it was fired, Jody painted birds near the base in a more realistic style and then in a more petroglyph style near the neck.  After the firing. she then etched the designs into the surface of the clay.  Six bears are encircling the neck of the jar.  Around the bears are lightning designs.  Around the shoulder of the jar are incised feathers.  The jar is an interesting contrast of colors, designs, and textures.  The birds painted below the shoulder have just a slight texture to the surface.  The jar was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom, “Jody”.   It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
