Polly Rose Folwell is a daughter of Jody Folwell and a sister of Susan Folwell.  She is known for her use of classic designs on her traditional-inspired Santa Clara pottery. This new jar is coil-built and thin-walled.  The jar is made from micaceous clay and it was traditionally fired and then painted.  The title of the piece is “Night Dancers”.  The jar has two “Father Sky” figures, each tightly painted.  Extending out from them around the bowl are bands of stars, painted with small dots.  The bottom row of the design is the mesas, which become buildings, and then mesas again.  Polly said she wanted to create a sense of movement in the figures and the sky. She had two figures, so they looked like they were “dancing” in the sky. The horizon flows from mesa to building, often difficult to tell the difference in the dark at night.  The design and creativity of the piece are captivating!  It is a wonderful combination of form and simplicity of creative and thoughtful design.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Polly Rose”.
