Susan Folwell is known for her use of contemporary and creative imagery on her pottery.  The piece is part of her “pop art” series. and entitled, “Death, Taxes and Kardashians”.  Susan said, in the 2020s, these are the are three things you can always be sure of in life.  Her humor, pop-art style, and creativity are evident in this set.  This bowl is coil-built and the rim has been wet before it was fired to create the “crackled” appearance as if the piece had been aged. The bowl with fired and the rim was sealed to keep it looking the same.  The outside of the bowl is painted with acrylic and has a turquoise blue pointillism around the bowl.  The inside is painted a deep red coloration. The piece has a wonderfully smooth texture. There is an accompanying spoon which is painted to match the bowl.  Susan’s pottery is meant to not only connect with us visually but also with touch and meant to make us think.  Her innovative style of painting and pottery forms continues to break barriers within the Pueblo pottery world.  The piece is signed on the bottom, “Susan Folwell” and the spoon is signed on the handle “SF”.
