This is an exceptional large jar by Susan Folwell.  She is one of the exciting innovators in Pueblo pottery.  This large jar is coil-built and the top half is polished red. The bottom half is matte.  The bottom half is fully etched with the Folwell family “x’s”, representing stars. However, it is the top half that is so visually striking!  There are two rows of designs that are incised and then painted.  They are complex and fluid across the surface of the piece.  Susan began using Northwest Coast design, which Susan used years ago when she lived in that area.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Susan Folwell”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
