8" long x 6"w x 8"h

$ 2,200.00

Susan Folwell continues in her “Taos Light” series, with, “Field Days and Nocturnes”.  This series is inspired by a painting by Bert Greer Phillps, as well as an interesting story about his life.  Once again, the piece is quite exceptional. It is inspired by a coffee grinder and meant to replicate that in clay.  The piece is slab built and then painted. There is a separate clay “handle” that is the grinder and it sits at an angle.  The piece is signed on the side.    Susan says of this piece:

“The coffee grinder is entitled, “Sweet Rose Coffee”.  It is inpsired both a painting by Bert Phillips as well as his life story.  He was one of the members of the Taos Society of Artists who, when he was travelling through Taos, had a wagonwheel break and he ended up staying.  He met Rose Martin and fell in love.  That was another reason he remained in Taos.  I wanted to capture not just his painting, but his love of nature, art and his wife…and maybe coffee!”

It was in 2017 that Susan Folwell began a series of clay pieces inspired by and re-interpreting the Taos Society of Artists’ work from 1915-27. She has continued to create and evolve in this series over the years.
